Make the Most of Fall
Marathon moments. Fall flavors. Pumpkins. Halloween. A quick guide to what's happening around the Twin Cities—and what's good at Hen House.

26.2 Miles Later...
Here's What Happened While Minneapolis Was Running.
The Twin Cities Marathon took over Minneapolis and St. Paul on October 4.
And this year gave us a few things worth talking about.
- A 25-Year Record FellLilian Chebii ran 2:25:26, breaking the women’s course record that had stood since 2001.
- 33,000+ People ParticipatedA record Marathon Weekend.
- Nearly 4,000 Ran Their First MarathonWhich makes getting our steps in feel slightly less impressive.
- And One Guy Brought a CanoeMinneapolis runner Travis Meier portaged a canoe for the entire marathon.
Because apparently 26.2 miles needed a Minnesota setting.
Nice run, Twin Cities.

Pumpkins by Day. Halloween After Dark.
There are approximately 400 ways to “do fall.” We narrowed it down.
Pumpkins + a Corn Maze
Head to Peter's Pumpkins & Carmen's Corn in Shakopee.
There are U-pick pumpkins, a corn maze and, on weekends, U-pick apples and free hayrides.
Yes, you could buy a pumpkin at the grocery store.
That's not really the point.
Put on the boots. Get lost in the corn. Pick a pumpkin that's slightly too big.
Find a carving idea and try something beyond the triangle eyes, or carve a chicken. We're partial.
Or... Go Where Halloween Is a Big Deal.
That would be Anoka—the Halloween Capital of the World.
For more than a century, this town has taken Halloween seriously.
House Decorating Contest Public Viewing
Participating homes around Anoka turn themselves into Halloween displays.
Grande Day Parade
Takes over Main Street with 1.5 miles of floats, bands and costumes.
Decorated Homes, Round Two
Can’t make that weekend? The decorated homes open for public viewing again from 6:30–9:30 PM.

Fall Looks Good on Minnesota.
There are plenty of reasons to love Minnesota. October makes a pretty convincing case.
The trees are doing their thing. The Twin Cities Marathon just brought two cities together. Anoka is preparing for Halloween like it's a major civic responsibility. Pumpkins are everywhere. And cinnamon has somehow become an acceptable addition to almost anything.
It's colorful. A little weird. Very Minnesota.
We'll take it.
